Structural Engineer/Director BE Hons Civil, CMEngNZ, CPEng, IntPE
Geoff is the founder of Structex and has over 30 years consulting engineering experience. After graduating from Canterbury University with an honours degree in civil engineering, he worked offshore for a civil contractor then returned to NZ as a structural designer of low and high-rise commercial buildings. His expertise now extends to a wide range of professional engineering advice as a designer, project manager, and expert witness, as well as director roles for a number of Structex businesses. He is driven in engineering and business by a passion for excellence, innovation, and win-win relationships. He enjoys direct involvement with project design, looking to combine his experience with the most up to date knowledge of the talented teams he works with.
Geoff has contributed to industry bodies including ACENZ as a board member, various technical groups, and is currently on the management committee of the NZ Society for Earthquake Engineering.
He and his wife Gaye now live in the Christchurch CBD to be close to the earthquake rebuild activity, are active in the Anglican Church, grow grapes on a small Marlborough vineyard, and enjoy exploring the Marlborough Sounds with family and friends.
Technical Manager/Director NZCE (Civil)
Graham entered the world of engineering in 1984 as a Fitter and Turner. On completion of his trade he moved into civil engineering design where over the last 25 years he has worked on a vast array of civil and structural projects.
In addition to being a director of Structex Harvard, Graham heads our CAD design team and has significant experience in project management, contributing to the project design with practical construction knowledge, and finding innovative methods to enhance the project documentation process
Graham has developed strong industry ties to the Christchurch polytechnic and provides industry input into NZDE and BEngTech engineering qualifications at local and national level. Passionate about Revit and the world of BIM, currently chairman and regular presenter at the South Island BIM group (BIMsiNZ), Also a member of CollaborateANZ and BIM in NZ which are working groups looking at BIM standards and development in NZ & Australia.
Lifelong goal of staying fit enough to keep up with his wife and 2 teenage boys. Highly competitive, will give any sport a go but in particular enjoys trail running, kayaking and mountain biking with a touch of tennis and golf.
Senior Structural Engineer BE(Hons), CMEngNZ, CPEng
James started with Structex as a summer intern and then as a structural engineering graduate late 2009. He has enjoyed working in a variety of building sectors including multi-storey commercial, retail, healthcare, industrial, residential, and adventure tourism. His skill-set includes in-depth knowledge of shipping container buildings, with experience gained from the Re:START Mall, a 3 storey temporary workers accommodation, and Salvation Army retail store.
James grew up in Hamilton, and moved to Christchurch in 2006 for university and the abundance of quality rock climbing nearby. He spends his spare time rock climbing, running, tramping, surfing, and volunteering with the Christchurch Land Search and Rescue team.
Structural Engineer BE (Hons), MEngNZ
Julia graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2012 and began working at Structex in 2013 before taking 18 months leave to serve a volunteer for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Continuing the tradition of her family, she is a fourth generation structural engineer.
Her experience to date includes assessment of existing building strength and earthquake damage, strengthening of existing buildings (including historic brick masonry buildings), residential and commercial design, and development of recreational climbing frames installed through the world by a local Christchurch company.
Julia is Christchurch born and raised, and between running, hiking, Ceroc dance, and trying to teach herself to skateboard, Julia is a leader in the youth programme at her church.
Senior Engineering Technician DipEng Civil
Petra arrived from Germany in 2004 with her husband Ulrich and their two sons, and started her job with Structex Harvard in 2004. She graduated with a National Diploma in Civil Engineering in Germany and has since worked in the structural engineering and design field. She left Structex Harvard in 2009 to work with her husband in their family business, but her passion for structural design and missing the Structex team, saw Petra gravitate back to the fold. Petra is experienced in structural draughting in AutoCad and Revit, as well as bookkeeping, accounting & payroll, and is fluent in German. She revels in attention to detail.
She works remotely from her residence in sunny Nelson, and in her free time she enjoys riding her motorbike, outdoor activities and gardening.
Engineering Technologist NZDE Civil, BEngTech Civil
Andrew is a structural draughtsman with experience in both AutoCAD and Revit. Andrew began working at Structex in late 2010 as a cadet whilst undertaking his studies at CPIT and has since matured into his current role as an intermediate draughtsman, with experience on small and large scale jobs.
Andrew is an enthusiastic and successful sportsman representing New Zealand in the sport of lawn bowls. He is also a keen cyclist and has recently taken up kick boxing.
Structural Engineer BE Hons Civil, MEngNZ
Matthew is from Christchurch and graduated from the University of Canterbury with an engineering degree in 2001. He joined Structex in 2002 as a structural engineer, understanding steel designs with EBF frames, concrete designs with precast multi-storey panels, and civil works design. Matt has had the rare experience of seeing his designs successfully withstand the Christchurch earthquakes. Interests are music, movies and sports – rugby and basketball.

Ben joined Structex as a summer intern in 2015 and returned in 2016 as a University of Canterbury graduate. As part of the degree he spent a semester on exchange at the University of Bath in England which provided a great base for exploring the wonders of Europe and beyond. He has since been involved in various projects such as the temporary works design for the New Brighton Pier earthquake repairs and commercial building design.
Ben is a keen mountain biker and also spends time out fishing, quad-biking and tramping in the Canterbury high country.
Structural Engineer BE Civil (Hons)
Jack recently completed a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Canterbury. While interning with Structex in 2016, Jack was involved in the engineering design of commercial and retail buildings. He has now joined the team in late 2017 and is excited to see what projects are next. He has served as a volunteer firefighter in Lyttelton since high school and enjoys the community spirit and the challenges of the role. In his spare time Jack also enjoys playing music, tramping and playing football.
Structural Engineer MEng, GMICE
Andrew joined Structex in January 2018 having relocated from the UK. Originally from Edinburgh, he graduated from the University of Dundee in 2014 and had been working at Design Consultancy Mott MacDonald in Glasgow until relocating. There, he carried out work on a wide range of civil and building structures such as schools, hospitals, dams and hydro schemes. Ever since undertaking a module in Earthquake Engineering at University, Andrew has been keen to move to Christchurch to develop his knowledge and help with the rebuild of the city and other high seismic activity areas nearby.
Andrew is keen to explore the world by hiking, kayaking, running and cycling, and is always keen to try new sports.
Tim has recently joined our Montreal Street office & brings with him five years of engineering experience, as well as a passion for technology, innovation and earthquake engineering. Tim is originally from Canada where he began his career with Subsea 7, an engineering and marine construction firm and global consultant Arup. There he worked on large energy projects and building infrastructure to withstand the harsh environment of the North Atlantic. Since immigrating to New Zealand in 2016, Tim has been heavily involved with the Christchurch rebuild as well as assessing and strengthening earthquake-prone buildings across the country. When not at work, Tim enjoys raising his young family with Kiwi wife, Natasha, and embraces opportunities to get out and explore more of his new home.
Sally is our new Finance Administrator at our Montreal Street Office, returning to work after welcoming baby Cole into the world with her partner Paul. Sally comes from a Finance background bringing years of experiences working in various industries. She’s also currently in the process of finishing her Diploma in Accounting. When not at work, Sally enjoys spending time with her family and travelling around NZ.
Office & Marketing Support
Sam has recently joined us filling the position of Office & Marketing Support based at our Montreal Street Office. Sam comes from an administration background with a passion for photography. Sam is the first person you’ll see when you come into our office and will always greet you with a smile. As part of her role, Sam will use her photography and creative talents in the marketing and social media space. When not at work, Sam enjoys spending her time with her partner Matt, as well as family & friends. Other interests include playing netball, travelling and heading outdoors on adventures with her camera. Sam and Matt own two parrots, a Galah named Poppy & an Indian Ringneck named Oscar – who recently featured on The Ellen Show!
