The Hub is a large existing shopping centre on the west side of Christchurch. Design of major reconstruction started before the 2010/11 Canterbury earthquakes, and was then modified to account for increased seismic design codes.

Whilst constructed in two main stages, the work had to happen around ongoing trading in the centre, requiring careful consideration of construction methodologies in close consultation with the contractor and operators.

Design Features:

- A complex project, staged to suit operational requirements.

- Integration with existing building elements.

- Close relationship with the project team throughout to enhance buildability.

- Significant temporary works design.
