Structex was engaged to design the temporary works to enable the repair of earthquake damage to the New Brighton Pier.

This involved design of 4m diameter caissons to create a dry working environment up to 10m below the high-tide level. Health & Safety was the key driver in this design due to the harsh seaside environment and work involved. This project required an iterative development of repair methodology with the contractor to meet a variety of constraints and challenges.

This project received an ACE NZ Innovation Award of Excellence Merit Award in 2019.
